Madhya Pradesh Karate-Do Association was found in the year 1979 with only three members, Lt. Sensai Deepak C. Thakur, A Syed Khan and Gurjeet Singh Gurcha and in October 1979 the first Madhya Pradesh State championship was conducted in Raipur. In the Same Month MPKA got affiliation from All India Karate-Do Federation and first time MPKA has participated in the 3rd AIKF National Karate-Do Championship in October 1980. 2 Members of MPKA, Deepak and Gurjeet have been selected to represent in the world Karate Championship held at Spain, Madrid in November 1990.

Gradually Karate has been spread in all the district of Madhya Pradesh as per the figures collected by MPKA in 1994. 60,000 students were learning karate under the banner of MPKA.

MPKA has lost its pioneer and father figure Shri Deepak Thakur in 1998. After the partition of Madhya Pradesh in to MP and Chhattisgarh, Working Office of MPKA, shifted to Rewa. In the year 2001 Sports Authority of India has adopted Karate as one of the discipline. The karate scenario changed very rapidly at National Level.

In the Year 2002 the first female participant from MP participated in 6th Asian Karate Championship held in Japan, September 2002 and another female participant represented in the WKF held in Madrid, Spain, in November 2002.

In the Year 2005, MP Karate team has won the overall AIKF Championship. In april 2005 Karatekas of MP Karate Association represented Indian Karate Team in 7th Senior Junior and Cadet Asian Karate Championship. In women Team Kata MPKA players created history by winning Bronze Medal.

In the year 2007 the 33rd national games at Guwahati, 30 different discipline won only 4 Gold for Madhya Pradesh. In the last two days Karatekas from MP Karate Association made an unbeaten history by winning 8 Gold, 3 Silver and 1 bronze. In 11 events out of total 12 events, MPKA Karatekas were in final. After winning those medals the MP jumped to the 12th rank.

On this incredible achievement, the MP Government has given an amount of Rs.27 Lakhs to the players and their coaches. This was the turning point of Karate in MP.

Department of Sports and Youth Welfare provided Karate Mats in 10 districts of MP and they have started Martial Art Academy in Bhopal and the credit goes only to MPKA.

Now, so many Karatekas of MPKA has got the jobs in various employment sectors, due to their achievements.

Since 2005, the MP Karate-Do Association is on the top of the Medal Tally of All India Karate Championship. If the forth coming National Games, which are going to be held in Jharkhand in February 2011, 11 players of Madhya Pradesh Karate-Do Association have been qualified for 12 events.
